Several foreign intelligence officers arrived in the country to probe the arrested couple with alleged links to the international terrorist group Islamic State.
As per a GMA story, the terror suspects identified as Husayn Al-Dhafiri, a Kuwaiti national, and Rahaf Zina, a Syrian woman who claimed to be Al-Dhafiri’s wife, have undergone tactical interrogation, but authorities declined to disclose any information yet.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre said during a press conference that based on official communications forwarded to the Bureau of Immigration by the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation, the couple has links to terrorism and are believed to pose a threat to national security.
The arrest of the two suspects came following the Kuwaiti Embassy’s request that Al-Dhafiri be deported so he can face charges in Kuwait.
Local authorities, meanwhile, are verifying if the duo have connections to local terrorist groups. Bureau of Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said he received reports that the couple traveled to Cebu and Davao earlier this year.
