- 17-year-old girl sent letter asking CHR for help, said father made her a sex slave for a decade
- Charges of rape and unlicensed possession of firearms readied against suspect
- Father denied charges, admitted only slapping her for staying at BF’s boarding house and frequent nights out
DUMAGUETE CITY – A combined team from the Commission on Human Rights and the Philippine National Police in Oriental Negros rescued a 17-year-old girl — who claimed her father made her his sex slave for 10 years — last Friday.
Dr. Jesus Cañete, CHR regional head, said they were tipped off by the victim — a native of Zamboanguita — through an anonymous letter asking for help. Immediately, a group of CHR personnel together with operatives from the PNP Provincial Intelligence Bureau rescued the girl and arrested the father who was caught with an unlicensed firearm in his possession.
“According to her, her father started raping here in 2007. So that was ten years ago. She is seventeen ngayon, so, ilang taon lang siya noon, seven years siya at that time, seven years old or eight years old?” he told GMA News.
Cañete said the girl told her rescuers how her father would rape her inside their home and at a nearby plantation.
“Sa loob mismo ng kanilang bahay ito nangyari, ayon sa kaniya. Minsan sa Nepa plantation. In fact, two days ago tinangka na naman sana siyang kaladkarin sa Nepa plantation but she was able to break free,” he said.
[It would take place at their home according to her. Sometimes it took place at the Nepa plantation. In fact, two days ago he was going to take her there but she was able to break free.]
Cañete added that the girl did not inform her family because her father allegedly threatened to kill her.
“Tinanong natin siya kung aware ba ang kaniyang mga kapamilya? Ang sabi niya hindi dahil hindi siya nagsasalita because her father threatened to kill all of them,” he said.
[We asked if her family was aware. She said no, she did not say anything because her father threatened to kill all of them.]
For his part, the suspect denied the accusations even as charges for rape and illegal possession of firearms are being prepared against him.
However, he admitted having slapped his daughter because of her frequent staying out late at night and because she allegedly stayed at her boyfriend’s boarding house in Dumaguete.
