The tropical paradise of Palawan in the Philippines was once again voted the “world’s best island” by readers of Travel + Leisure magazine.
Getting a score of 93.15, Palawan ranked first in the magazine’s “World’s Top 10 Islands 2017.” It’s a back-to-back honor for Palawan as it also ranked 1st last year.
Palawan also topped back in 2013.
The magazine said that with Palawan’s verdant mountains, a five-mile-long underground river, limestone caves, and spectacular scuba diving, its appeal is as clear as its turquoise waters.
Travel + Leisure writer Rebecca Ascher-Walsh said in an article published on Tuesday, referring to Palawan: “There’s nothing quite like immersing yourself in the natural wonders of this Philippine archipelago, which many of our readers described as ‘rustic,’ ‘romantic,’ ‘affordable’ and ‘relaxing.’ As one fan succinctly wrote, ‘it’s the single most beautiful place on earth.’”
Another popular tourist spot in the Philippines, which is known over the world for its unique, powdery white sand, Boracay made it to 3rd place this year with a score of 89.67. Last year, Boracay was at 2nd place.
